Our Story
Since 2008 StudentReach staff, youth & family volunteers, and donors have helped to build 80 permanent homes in the region for 80 families living without safe and healthy housing. We have seen lives and now generations be changed for the families that we build for.
In 2016 StudentReach decided to put down roots and sent Karl and Sherry Hus to establish a center that would serve Baja. We dreamed it would facilitate our hard-working volunteers as they spent weeks building homes for families in need. We also hoped it would help launch our award-winning youth programs in Baja to serve the at-risk youth in the region.
In 2017 StudentReach staff and volunteers embarked on a major project advocated and supported by the local Mayor of Vicente Guerrero, called “Hope Village |City View”. Hope Village was built and funded entirely by volunteers and now includes 8 homes that house fatherless children and single mothers.
Many of our residents have experienced extreme trauma and homelessness in Mexico. This program is led by Mark and Edith Michael.
In 2018 StudentReach purchased the land for Centro de Esperanza and is now breaking ground to build this center of hope that will serve more children in the region and make a long-lasting impact on their lives.
Now, closing out 2019, we have made great strides in the ongoing build of Hope Center. ReachBaja hosted our first of many summer camps, bringing the community together to celebrate its students. Over 100 students have since attended Camp Hope’s events learning valuable life skills along with having fun with children their age.
We project even more growth in the year to come!
